– EN Fashion – Tess Holliday never felt confident about her body before she started her career in modelling.
The plus-size beauty had worked as a make-up artist and stylist before she moved to Los Angeles and signed her first modelling deal in 2011, at the age of 26.
And in a new essay Tess has penned for InStyle, she confessed that the career move had finally helped her to accept her figure and feel sexy.
“Modelling changed my life. That sounds really cheesy, but it’s true,” she gushed. “I never felt confident before I got on set; there was never any clothing I felt good or sexy in. Now I feel the most on top of my game when I’m at a photo shoot.”
Tess went on to write about her success and claimed that she wants to use her platform to create work that makes people of all shapes and sizes feel represented.
“I thrive in (the studio) space because I know I am the person I always dreamed of being,” the 33-year-old considered. “And I’m creating something that’s going to be around much longer than me, something that brings more visibility to the world so little kids and women feel represented.”
Despite embracing her newfound confidence, Tess revealed that she still faces criticism from online trolls on a daily basis and has started going to therapy to “try and make sense of it all”.
The star, who lauds actress Danielle Brooks and songstress Lizzo among her personal inspirations, insisted that she now tries to take the opportunity to educate her critics rather than simply firing back at them.
“I will tell someone to f**k off if they deserve it, but I’d rather come from a place of compassion,” she added.
