– EN Fashion – Diane von Furstenberg didn’t let a broken back get in the way of work after she recently suffered the injury.
The creator of the wrap dress, Diane has been a style staple since the ‘70s. And though she recently celebrated her 72nd birthday, the designer shows no signs of slowing down – even when age tries to get in the way.
“Of course, the physical aspect of ageing is challenging,” she shrugged to Town & Country magazine. “Today I was out of it. I was tired, my mouth was swollen (from dental work), and I broke my back a few months ago.
“I think of ageing as an acquisition, not a loss.”
While she didn’t give details as to when she broke her back, Diane has rarely been off of the red carpet in the past few months, attending events like Ralph Lauren’s 50th anniversary show in September (18), the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in November, and the Footwear News Achievement Awards in December.
For the latest issue of Town & Country, Diane poses with her granddaughter Talita, who has been learning the fashion ropes from her famous grandmother.
Recalling a time Talita joined her in Florence for a week-long fashion show, Diane shared: “She really worked. She helped cast the models; she helped with styling.”
As for 19-year-old Talita, a student at America’s famous Georgetown University, she says she’s ready to become more involved at the label.
“I look at it this way. Your mom wore DVF, and maybe your grandmother wore DVF, but now I can bring something a little more fresh and youthful,” she smiled.
